Mohammed Babangida's interview (First Son of IBB)

Mohammed Babangida Speaks on new marriage
How does it feel to be married a second time?
MB " It feels good. We thank God for sparing our lives to see this day. Everything in life is predestined to happen. If this is the wish of Almighty Allah, then so be it. And we pray that it becomes a peaceful marriage and it bears the fruit of beautiful and wonderful children that will be the joy and happiness of our lives.
Why did you go for a second wife when your father did not marry a second wife? Where did you pick the trait from?
MB "I don't know. As you can imagine, everybody has his path in life that he has to follow and it may not be the same as those that form the immediate core of your family. It could be very different. Again, it is something that is prescribed by the religion. It is supported strongly by the religion. I think most people should just pray that it ends up being a happy union.

What was your parents (IBB and Maryam) reaction when you told them you were getting married a second time?
MB "Naturally, they will be curious. But it had not been a discussion of today, so they will leave everything to the will of God because such things you really don't have much control over"
What about your first wife, Rahama, what was her reaction when you told her you were getting married to another woman?
MB "Naturally, you have all these issues. There's always going to be some form of discomfort there, but over time, because we have this strong belief in our God and religion, we just have to allow things to take its course"

Can you tell us how your relationship with your new wife started?
MB "It started a long time ago in 1995 and then there was a gap. I got married to my first wife and the gap became wider, and just by sheer luck, everything came back and we just said look, we have been around and we've known each other for so long, let's go and give it a shot"

What actually attracted you to her?
MB "I think it more about her personality and commitment. She is a very committed person. Whatever she focuses on she stays focused on it."

What is it that you see in her that you don't see in your first wife?
MB "I think everybody is unique. There are so many things that I see in my first wife that I won't see in her and vice versa. And no one individual is one hundred per cent complete and it is a complementary relationship. So each person is unique"

Rahama Babangida breaks down over Mohammed's second marriage
"Despite Mohammed Babangida's claim that his first wife Rahama, was just a little bit uncomfortable about his second marriage to Umma, his childhood lover, there are indications that the home front of the first son of Nigeria's former military president, is in serious trouble.
Informed sources disclosed to encomium weekly that Rahama is more than uncomfortable with her husband of four years for picking wife no 2 and this threw the home of General Babangida into a serious confusion last week. Reliable sources confided in us that Rahama was so sad about the development that she could not contain herself. We learnt that Rahama wept profusely on Friday April 25th 2008, when it dawned on her that her husband would actually be getting married to another woman. And when it became obvious that she could no longer hold herself, we were told that Rahama left the family's hilltop mansion for Abuja. We learnt that Mohammed who came home from Kano on Sat. April 26th, was particularly disturbed when he got home and met his kids crying and also discovered Rahama had left home. We were told he tried Rahama's phone to no avail. This development we were told resulted in a kind of delay and Mohammed did not show up at his wedding reception until around 1 am the following morning.
On Thursday May 1st, we called to speak with the troubled on the whole issue but we were unsuccessful. A lady who referred to herself as one of Rahama's sisters said it is not true that Rahama abandoned her matrimonial home.
End of the story...
